Panthers named a potential trade desination for Eagles QB Carson Wentz

ESPN has identified Carolina as one of five potential trade destinations if the Eagles do decide to deal Wentz.

The Panthers have tipped their hand and made it clear they want a new quarterback. The franchise is reportedly going to be aggresively pursuing a potential trade with the Texans for Deshaun Watson. They also came very close to trading for Matt Stafford before the Rams made the Lions an offer they couldn’t refuse.

Watson wearing a Carolina uniform is undeniably alluring. However, it’s also a long-shot, especially considering Houston says he won’t be traded. They should go all-in and try to acquire him anyway, but odds are Watson won’t be playing for the Panthers anytime soon. The good news is there are a lot of quarterbacks who will be on the move this offseason. One name to watch is Carson Wentz, who bombed in 2020 and apparently wants out of Philadelphia.

ESPN has identified Carolina as one of five potential trade destinations if the Eagles do decide to deal Wentz.

“The Panthers reportedly offered their first-round pick-plus for Matthew Stafford. That doesn’t mean they’ll do the same for Wentz, but it’s at least evidence they’re being aggressive in pursuit of a new signal-caller. The pairing of Wentz and up-and-coming offensive coordinator Joe Brady, who interviewed for the Eagles’ head-coaching job a couple weeks back, could be an interesting melding of the minds.”

Consider us not fans of this particular idea. Wentz has had his moments but his basement is too low and his contract too burdensome for the Panthers to take on.

It’s certainly an interesting idea, though and Wentz has as much upside as any of the quarterbacks aroung the league who are expected to be on the trade block this offseason. That said, taking on Wentz at this point in his career is too much of a gamble. We’ll have more on this in detail tomorrow when we take a look at each of the potential QB trade targets for the Panthers, but the short version is that until somebody proves Wentz’s issues can be fixed, he’s not worth the risk.
