The Panthers seem to be mulling a move down in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft. Over the weekend, Peter King reported that the team wants more picks than they currently have.
Now, Adam Schefter at ESPN reports that they’ve had conversations about trading down from the No. 8 spot.
Carolina Panthers have had conversations with other teams about potentially trading back in the draft from pick No. 8, per source. There are all sorts of ongoing trade conversations between teams, let’s see what next week brings.

Moving down would most likely mean the Panthers won’t get their hands on one of this year’s top quarterback prospects – which is good news for Sam Darnold. With a deal down from No. 8, his status as the QB1 could be cemented in for at least the next two years, barring a total bomb of a 2021 season.
As for the rest of the draft class, adding more picks gives Carolina a better chance of landing some impact players – even if it means they likely won’t get a top-10 talent like Oregon left tackle Penei Sewell or Florida tight end Kyle Pitts.
