Perry Fewell on the Cam Newton billboards in CLT: "I'd love for Cam to stay. I don't know why he'd be leaving."

Will Grier showed some potential in Sunday’s loss to the Colts. It’s also obvious that he’s got a lot of growing to do and Cam Newton is still by far the best quarterback on the Panthers roster.
When interim head coach Perry Fewell was asked about billboards that fans have raised money for to encourage Cam to stay, he told reporters he’d love for Newton to stay and doesn’t know why he’d leave. This jives with everything we have read and heard regarding Newton, which all indicates that he wants to stay, his teammates want him to stay and the owner wants him to stay.
The question that matters is how much does the next coach of the Panthers believe in Newton and do they want him to be their franchise QB going forward? Whoever they hire should give us a clue as to his plans.
At this point in the search, there hasn’t been any solid reporting as to a lead candidate, just names. If we had our pick, we’d go with Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman. His success this year with Lamar Jackson and with Colin Kaepernick in the past proves he can get the most out of talented mobile quarterbacks like Newton. Baltimore’s culture of embracing analytics and other ways of competing outside the box would also be a welcome addition to a franchise that too often has been stuck in the past.
If Roman were to bring those same bold instincts along with his creative play-calling, the best days for Newton and the Panthers could be ahead rather than in the rear-view mirror.
