With NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers back for at least one more season, the Green Bay Packers can be safely considered one of the top Super Bowl contenders entering 2021.
In the first USA TODAY NFL power rankings of the regular season, the Packers sit at No. 4 overall, trailing only the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kansas City Chiefs and Cleveland Browns.
Matt LaFleur’s team is packed with talent at the premium positions. The goal is no longer winning the division, or making a deep playoff run. It’s getting to the Super Bowl. The Packers have won 26 regular-season games and made each of the last two NFC title games but failed at the doorstep of the Super Bowl both times.
And this might be the last chance to get there with Rodgers as the Packers quarterback.
The journey begins Sunday in Florida. In Week 1, the Packers go to Jacksonville to play the New Orleans Saints, the No. 16 ranked team.
The highest-ranked NFC North team after the Packers is the Minnesota Vikings at No. 15. The Chicago Bears (No. 25) and Detroit Lions (No. 30) both are in the bottom third of the rankings.
Overall, the Packers will play six of the top 10 teams in the power rankings during the regular season, including the Chiefs and Browns.
