Packers RB Aaron Jones had most ‘Remarkable Rush’ of Week 13

Aaron Jones’ 77-yard TD against the Eagles featured 70 yards above the expectation, according to Next Gen Stats.

The dagger touchdown delivered by Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones that capped off Sunday’s 30-16 win over the Philadelphia Eagles was certainly remarkable.

According to Next Gen Stats, the run was the most remarkable rush of Week 13.

On every run play, Next Gen Stats predicts – based on player tracking – how many yards can be expected. This metric allows data on what running backs are producing above what can be expected on run plays.

Jones went way over the expected run yards on his 77-yard score in the fourth quarter Sunday.

Next Gen Stats predicted the run would gain five yards. At 72 yards of “Rush Yards Over Expected,” Jones’ run ranked as the top “Remarkable Rush” of Week 13.

The Packers offensive line certainly created a running lane for Jones, but with an unblocked linebacker and safety waiting for him, a 77-yard run wasn’t likely. The score became much more likely when Jones sidestepped both tackle attempts and broke into the open field, where a convoy of teammates helped him find the end zone.

Jones’ run featured the fourth-most “Rush Yards Over Expected” of any run during the 2020 season so far.

The 77-yard run was actually Jones’ second run featuring at least 70 yards above expected this season, per Next Gen Stats. His 75-yard score against the Detroit Lions in Week 2 had 70. He’s the only player with at least 20 such runs in 2020.

Jones finished with 130 rushing yards in the 30-16 win. He ranks seventh among running backs in “Rush Yards Over Expected” this season.
