Packers planning to send masks to season-ticket holders

The Packers will send two face masks to season-ticket holders to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.

Season ticket holders of the Green Bay Packers will soon be getting face coverings from the team to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

Packers president Mark Muphy said the team is planning to send out two cloth face masks to all season-ticket holders, and the team will also begin selling individual masks online at the Packers Pro Shop.

“First, we will send two Packers facemasks to all season-ticket holders,” Murpy wrote on Packers.com. “We will also sell Packers facemasks online through our Pro Shop. Hopefully these steps will help people stay healthy during this pandemic and show their Packers pride.”

The masks are already for sale at the Pro Shop, in packs of three for both adults and youths.

The CDC has recommended “wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies), especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.”

The green and gold face masks could become useful if and when games are played in stadiums this fall. Sporting events – and the large crowds that accompany them – remain on hold as the United States battles the spread of the virus.

Murphy stayed realistic about the timeline moving forward, with some optimism that games will be played without disruption but also knowing that adjustments may need to be made on the fly as the NFL season nears.

“I obviously hope that we are able to play the entire season as scheduled,” Murphy wrote. “But, as the old saying goes, hope is not a strategy, and while the league office is planning to play an entire schedule, we are also looking at other options if the health and safety of our players and fans dictate that we not play games or play games without fans. We are trying not to set false deadlines and to wait as long as possible before making final decisions regarding whether and how to play games.”
