Packers meet virtually with Cincinnati TE Josiah Deguara

The Packers met with the Cincinnati tight end virtually during the pre-draft process.

The Green Bay Packers have met virtually with Cincinnati tight end Josiah Deguara during the pre-draft process, according to Justin Melo of The Draft Wire.

Deguara (6-2, 242) caught 92 passes for 1,117 yards and 12 touchdowns over 46 games and 27 starts at Cincinnati. He was an All-AAC selection in both 2018 and 2019 after catching 77 passes and all 12 of his career scores during the two seasons.

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com believes Deguara, who ran 4.71 in the 40-yard dash and put up 25 reps on the bench press at the combine, will be a quality H-back candidate at the next level.

The Packers have a need for depth at both tight end and fullback, especially after losing Danny Vitale in free agency.

Dane Brugler of The Athletic sees Deguara as a similar type of player.

From Brugler’s draft guide: “Deguara is in the Dan Vitale mold as an H-Back and special teamer who won’t overwhelm with his play strength or suddenness in his routes, but he has enough traits to hang on an NFL roster.”

Brugler pegged Deguara as a potential sixth-round pick.

The Packers hold seven picks on Day 3 of the draft.
