The Green Bay Packers won’t have Christian Watson on Sunday in the season opener, but starting receiver Romeo Doubs is officially active despite a hamstring injury. Doubs was listed as questionable but will play against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field.
Matt LaFleur’s inactive list includes Watson, three rookies, two reserves along the offensive line and veteran newcomer Zayne Anderson.
The Packers and Bears kick off the 2023 season at 3:25 p.m. CT from Soldier Field.
Here’s the Packers’ inactive list for Week 1:
WR Christian Watson
RB Emanuel Wilson
S Anthony Johnson Jr.
S Zayne Anderson
LB Brenton Cox Jr.
T Caleb Jones
G Sean Rhyan
The Packers elevated running back Patrick Taylor and defensive back Innis Gaines from the practice squad on Saturday, suggesting Wilson and Johnson Jr. — two rookies — would be healthy scratches in Week 1. Anderson, a waiver claim from Buffalo, is a backup at safety and might be still learning what Rich Bisaccia wants on special teams. Jones and Rhyan are both stuck behind several players on the Packers’ 8-player depth chart along the offensive line.
Tight end Ben Sims, another waiver claim after final cuts, is active for the Packers.
Here’s the Bears’ inactive list for Week 1:
WR Velus Jones Jr.
QB Tyson Bagent
WR Equanimeous St. Brown
DB Quindell Johnson
DL Khalid Kareem
TE Stephen Carlson
The Bears did not have a player on the injury report with a playing designation after releasing linebacker Dylan Cole. Among the inactives is St. Brown, the former Packers receiver.
