The Green Bay Packers are waiting for Aaron Rodgers to make a decision on his future — staying with the team, asking or a trade, and retirement all appear to be on the table.
Speaking at the NFL combine on Tuesday, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said there was no update on Rodgers’ decision other than the team hoping and assuming an announcement will come before the start of NFL free agency (March 16).
Gutekunst also claimed that no other teams have not expressed an interest (to Green Bay) about potentially trading for Rodgers, according to Zach Kruse of Packers Wire:
Asked if any other teams have expressed interest in Rodgers, Gutekunst smiled and said no.
“Not a single person,” Gutekunst said.
It’s hard to gauge how sincere Gutekunst’s answer was, but it’s certainly possible that teams could be waiting to make official offers until after Rodgers makes his decision.
Meanwhile, there’s an “air of optimism” and a “sense of confidence” in Green Bay that Rodgers will remain with the team, according to Mike Jones of USA TODAY Sports.
If that confidence is warranted, all of the trade talk will end up being a moot point. But if — and it might be a big if at this point — Rodgers does ask for a trade, the Denver Broncos will likely be among his suitors.
