Packers activate LB Christian Kirksey from injured reserve

The Packers’ veteran linebacker will return from a pectoral injury and play Sunday against the Jaguars.

The Green Bay Packers will get back their veteran inside linebacker for Sunday’s visit from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The team activated linebacker Christian Kirksey from injured reserve on Saturday.

Kirksey was placed on injured reserve with a pectoral injury following the Packers’ Week 3 win over the New Orleans Saints and has missed the last five games. Through three games, he led the team in tackles with 27.

Kirksey will take the roster spot of fullback John Lovett, who was placed on injured reserve after suffering a season-ending knee injury.

Signed to a two-year deal this offseason, Kirksey will likely team with rookie Kamal Martin as the defense’s two primary inside linebackers on Sunday against rookie running back James Robinson and the Jaguars.

The Packers did not activate receiver Allen Lazard, meaning he’ll have to wait one more week before returning from a core muscle injury. Although he’s been practicing for a few weeks, Lazard clearly needed more time to get ready to play.

The Packers also elevated four players from the practice squad. Safety Henry Black and receiver Juwann Winfree were elevated as COVID-19 replacements (A.J. Dillon, Krys Barnes) and cornerbacks KeiVarae Russell and Stanford Samuels were added as gameday elevations.

The Packers could be without both receiver Equanimeous St. Brown and Darrius Shepherd, who are both questionable. Cornerbacks Jaire Alexander (doubtful) and Kevin King (questionable) are also on the injury report for Week 10.
