Bennedict Mathurin turned in a strong run with the Indiana Pacers in the preseason and that resulted in the sixth pick leading the rookie class in scoring this year.
Mathurin wrapped up the preseason by averaging 19.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists in four games with the Pacers. He scored at least 15 points in each game and tied Shaedon Sharpe for the highest-scoring game by a rookie with 27 points on Oct. 12.
His 79 total points this preseason ranked sixth among all players.
He consistently drew praise from head coach Rick Carlisle throughout training camp for his ability as a scorer and finisher at the basket. They even worked together over the summer on finishing, which helped Mathurin get to the line this preseason.

Mathurin previously drew praise from Carlisle for his approach to the game and wanting to get better. He has shown a willingness to put in the work to improve and that has resonated with his head coach. It enabled him to have a strong preseason.
The Pacers loved the addition of Mathurin this year in the draft and believe he represents a big part of the future. The early showing by Mathurin should give the organization and its fans plenty of excitement for this season and beyond.
Indiana begins the regular season on Wednesday with the Washington Wizards.
