Pac-12 football overview: UCLA not ready for the big time

Utah exposed UCLA. That’s it. That’s the tweet.

The first full week of Pac-12 Conference football games offered a number of striking and significant revelations. One of them is that UCLA is not ready to compete for the conference championship this year.

You could say that lots of Pac-12 teams fail to win in Salt Lake City. USC did last year, after all. However, USC scored 42 points and led for much of the game before losing late. UCLA, on the other hand, very nearly got shut out. The Bruins’ offense scored seven points and gave up seven points. The net amount of points scored by the UCLA offense was therefore zero.

Dante Moore made a few great throws — you can see his potential — but he’s not ready to be great in 2023. He also doesn’t have the tools to be great in 2023, starting with an offensive line which was not able to help him against Utah’s pass rush. The Bruins do not have the weapons they owned in 2022.

There’s no shame in admitting that. It’s simply reality.
