‘Our boys deserved a moment,’ Texas A&M baseball parent speaks up about Schlossnagle move

“Our boys deserved a moment of celebration for their incredible season at A&M, especially after competing for the national championship.”

Former Texas A&M baseball head coach Jim Schlossnagle blindsided the nation by deciding to depart College Station for Austin on Tuesday less than 24 hours after losing the College World Series Finals to Tennessee.

During Schlossnagle’s introductory press conference at Texas on Wednesday, senior outfielder Travis Chestnut’s mom, Amy Chestnut Trevino, shared her opinion on the news via Facebook.

“Our boys deserved a moment of celebration for their incredible season at A&M, especially after competing for the national championship at the College World Series,” she said on social media. “But now, that moment has been stolen by the drama of Schloss heading to Texas, which has taken over the headlines. It’s the team that makes the Aggies great, not the coach. Gig’em Aggs!”

Nine Aggies entered the NCAA transfer portal on Wednesday. The most prominent names were freshman third baseman Gavin Grahovac, sophomore OF Jace LaViolette and junior shortstop Ali Camarillo.
