Toronto Raptors rookie Oshae Brissett announced on Friday his intentions to play for Canada Basketball this summer in a qualifying tournament for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
Brissett is the latest Canadian to commit to playing for his country after Jamal Murray, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, R.J. Barrett and Nickeil Alexander-Walker recently confirmed they would participate in the event.
Brissett was the lone rookie to suit up for Canada in exhibition play prior to the 2019 FIBA World Cup in September after Barrett, Alexander-Walker and others withdrew from the event. Brissett averaged 11 points, six rebounds and 1.3 assists in six games for Canada but was forced to leave after suffering a knee injury.
Canada was eliminated from the tournament in the group stage.
I always take pride in playing for my country and look to put my efforts into helping @CanBball. Injury sidelined me last summer but I look forward to helping my guys this summer. Let’s Go Canada 🇨🇦 #RoadToTokyo pic.twitter.com/KmILOVlzqU

FIBA announced on Wednesday that Canada was selected to host a qualifying tournament in Victoria, B.C. The winner of the six-team group will qualify for one of the last four spots available in the 2020 Olympics.
With Brissett now in the fold, Canada boasts an impressive roster ahead of the qualifying tournament in June but will face a tough schedule after opening up with Greece.
The qualifying tournament is set to run June 23-28.
