Oscars confirm 2024 air date and announce earlier start time; new Abbott Elementary episode will follow

The Oscars will be earlier next year and follow with a new episode of Abbott Elementary.

The 96th Academy Awards will be airing a little earlier than normal this year, per a press release.

ABC announced on Thursday that the annual film awards show will broadcast at 7 p.m. ET this year, which is an hour earlier than the ceremony has traditionally taken place.

Despite the actors strikes delaying the typical awards campaigning this fall, the ceremony will still take place on Sunday, March 10.

Following a tradition typically attached to the Super Bowl, ABC will also air a new episode of the sitcom Abbott Elementary after the Oscars ceremony ends.

Those in the Pacific Time zone will get a rebroadcast of the Academy Awards ceremony in prime time since the show will start in Los Angeles at 4 p.m.

Expected nominees this year include films like Oppenheimer, Barbie, American Fiction, Poor Things and Killers of the Flower Moon.

Late night show host Jimmy Kimmel is returning to host his fourth ceremony next year.
