The Oregon Ducks held their first spring scrimmage inside Autzen Stadium on Saturday morning. While there were many positives, one concerning development came when cornerback Dontae Manning left in a wheelchair with an apparent lower-body injury.

Manning is a third-year sophomore that was in a position to compete for a starting CB spot on the defense this offseason. He has been working with the first-team defense during the spring.

We don’t know the extent of the injury, and head coach Dan Lanning was unable to elaborate after the scrimmage.

“I’ll have to wait and see what happened,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning said. “He got dinged up. I really can’t speak on it yet because I’m obviously just leaving the practice field.”

After recording 18 tackles with one for loss and a pass breakup last season, there was an expectation and hope that Manning, a former five-star recruit, would take a step up on Oregon’s defense and help replace Mykael Wright as the No. 1 corner in the secondary. So far, we have seen him frequently working opposite transfer Christian Gonzalez and project he will be among the more important pieces of the secondary.

We will continue to monitor this injury and provide updates as soon as more information is known.
