‘Once a Duck, always a Duck;’ Ty Thompson sends parting message to Oregon fans

Oregon Ducks quarterback Ty Thompson sent a parting message to fans after entering the transfer portal on Monday.

A bit of expected, albeit difficult news, came Sunday afternoon: Oregon Ducks quarterback Ty Thompson announced his intention to enter the transfer portal.

After spending three seasons with the Ducks in a backup role, Thompson is looking for a better situation, one in which he can see more of the field.

As a true freshman, Thompson was the backup for transfer Anthony Brown. He spent his redshirt freshman and redshirt sophomore years as a backup to Bo Nix in Eugene. Throughout his Oregon career, Thompson completed 42-of-66 passes for 456 yards, 6 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.

It was expected he would be in line to win the starting job for the Ducks in 2024 with Nix leaving Oregon for the NFL. That obviously will not be the case in the wake of Dillon Gabriel committing to the Ducks over the weekend.

On Monday, Thompson made it official by putting his name in the portal. He had this message to give to Oregon fans when all was said and done:

There are few players who have earned as much respect as Thompson during his time at Oregon. Fans adore the loyalty and hard work he displayed throughout his time in Eugene.

No matter where he ends up, Thompson certainly has a large group of fans rooting him on from Oregon.
