On3’s Gerry Hamilton entered a new prediction in favor of Texas this afternoon.
Hamilton predicted elite safety Derek Williams to Texas with 60% confidence. While On3 rates him as a four-star talent, the 247Sports composite rankings list him as a five-star safety.
Williams dropped a list of his top eight schools on June 4. The list included Alabama, Clemson, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound safety from New Iberia, Louisiana seemed to consider Alabama and LSU strongly prior to Hamilton’s prediction.
With Texas’ anticipated move to the SEC, it’s imperative Steve Sarkisian’s coaching staff brings in players of Williams’ caliber on the defensive side of the football.
Defensive passing game coordinator and secondary coach Terry Joseph has recruiting connections to Louisiana that could play a huge role in Williams’ recruitment.

Williams is the No. 2 safety in the country and the No. 4 overall prospect in Louisiana for the 2023 recruiting class, according to On3.
