Ohio State defensive back commit Na’eem Offord was in attendance for Auburn’s thrilling victory of Texas A&M on Saturday. While the five-star recruit is currently committed to join the Buckeyes and play his college football in ‘The Shoe’ next season, the Birmingham, AL native has continuously toyed with the idea of flipping to a program within his home state.
That idea may be turning into a reality soon, as the consensus top 15 recruit in the 2025 cycle reportedly loved his time on the Plains enough for On3 expert Swift Wiltfong to log a prediction on Monday that Offord would flip his commitment to the Tigers. Offord committed to Ohio State back in February of this year, but has spend time on the Plains, in Oregon, Tuscaloosa, and Gainesville since.
Standing at 6-foot-1, Offord offers an elite set of physical tools and “ball hawking” skills that could make him a future first-round defensive back talent in the NFL Draft. Hugh Freeze and his staff have recruited a quartet of top 150 ranked defensive backs in their consensus top 5 ranked 2025 class, but Offord would instantly become the vital cog in what is already a very impressive defensive back class.
Offord has shown no indication that his final commitment decision, or decision to flip, is imminent, but the new expert prediction from Wiltfong provides a sense of optimism to Hugh Freeze and his staff nonetheless. There is a chance the Alabama native is in attendance for the Iron Bowl next Saturday, where Auburn will have another chance to convince him to join the team on the Plains next season.
