On3 analyst makes the case for Jayden Daniels’ Heisman candidacy

On3’s Jesse Simonton doesn’t think LSU’s three losses should be held against Daniels in Heisman voting.

Purely looking at the production as well as the eye test, there aren’t many players in college football this season who have been as impressive as [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag].

He’s performed at an elite level this season, totaling 38 touchdowns to just four interceptions on the season. The only thing holding him back is the Tigers’ defense, which has struggled and is the primary reason this team sits at 7-3.

That’s hurting Daniels’ Heisman Trophy candidacy, but On3’s Jesse Simonton argued that perhaps it shouldn’t in a recent mailbag. Simonton called Daniels “the most outstanding player in the sport in 2023” and pointed out that Daniels isn’t stat-padding but making every play necessary for LSU to win.

He also argues that there’s precedent for a three-loss Heisman winner, including Tim Tebow, Johnny Manziel, Robert Griffin III and Lamar Jackson.

Tigers fans will hope that, like Simonton, Heisman voters look at Daniels’ season separately from that of LSU’s team as a whole.
