But the way that the Celtics lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers and the fact that the Nuggets have only won 6 of their last 10 games adds extra weight to a contest many see as a preview of the 2024 NBA Finals.

To be clear, the actual impact of a win or a loss on either team’s fortunes will be as close to the minimal possible, given the other 81 such games on the schedule. But in terms of self- and external assessments and the potential boost or resistance it can add to either club’s momentum, it’s no minor game.
