Oklahoma will have nine scholarship players available for opener against UTSA

Lon Kruger provided on availability update on his team ahead of Oklahoma’s season opener Thursday night against UTSA.

Oklahoma basketball opens their season tonight at home against the UTSA Roadrunners at the Lloyd Noble Center.

This game was originally set for last Wednesday, but was pushed back due to a COVID-19 outbreak on the Sooners team that left them without the necessary number of scholarship players to play in the game.

On Tuesday, Lon Kruger met with the media to discuss the latest with his team ahead of their long-awaited return to the court.

The obvious question to many was just who exactly would be available for Oklahoma tonight given that they were unable to play a scheduled game with UCF just four days ago. Kruger didn’t give many specifics but did say they would have precisely nine scholarship players available for the game.

The only player Kruger mentioned directly as being out is sophomore forward Victor Iwuakor. A young player with potential, he is viewed as someone who could rise into a fairly significant contributor this season.

It is unclear if he will be able to return prior to Sunday’s Big 12 opener against TCU.

As for tonight’s game, the Sooners will tip of their season against UTSA tonight at 7:00 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on FOX Sports Oklahoma.
