Oklahoma wide receiver Deion Burks out for Red River Showdown per Report

The Oklahoma Sooners will be without another top target according to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

The Oklahoma Sooners have had very little luck on the injury front in 2024. And the hits keep coming for the wide receiver room.

For the second game in a row, the Sooners will be without their top five wide receivers. Pete Thamel of ESPN reported that wide receiver [autotag]Deion Burks[/autotag] will miss OU’s matchup with the No. 1 Texas Longhorns. Burks leads the Sooners in receptions, yards, and touchdowns in 2024.

After sitting out against Auburn, there was some initial optimism that Burks could be back for the Red River Showdown. However, the standout transfer was initially listed as questionable on the SEC’s first injury report of the week.

Oklahoma will turn to former four-star prospect Jaquaize Pettaway in the slot. J.J. Hester and Brenen Thompson have done some good things for the Sooners this season and will need to take their game to another level to help true freshman quarterback Michael Hawkins.

Hawkins has been unfazed by the situation or the environments that he’s been thrown into but will have a tough task ahead of him against a Texas team that ranks No. 2 in the nation in scoring defense.
