Oklahoma got revenge on Iowa State on Saturday as they outlasted the Cyclones 27-21 to claim a sixth straight Big 12 crown and finish the regular season at 8-2.
The Sooners finished at No. 6 in the final College Football Playoff rankings, just narrowly missing out on another trip to the national semifinals. The AP Poll didn’t quite give them that much of a jump up, as they only moved up to No. 8 in Sunday’s final regular season rankings.
To the surprise of nobody, Alabama remained as the No. 1 team after winning the SEC Championship Game against Florida in a shootout 52-46. Clemson rose up to No. 2 after defeating Notre Dame in the ACC title game, with the Fighting Irish falling down to the No. 4 spot. Big Ten champion Ohio State stayed at No. 3 and Texas A&M stayed put as well at No. 5.
Other Big 12 teams ranked include Iowa State at No. 12 and Texas at No. 20. Oklahoma State is just on the outside looking in as the highest vote-getter for the non-ranked teams.
Oklahoma will close out their year facing the Florida Gators in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl in a week and a half’s time on Dec. 30th.
