Not unexpected, the Oklahoma Sooners took a tumble in the latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll after their 41-34 loss to the Kansas State Wildcats. The Sooners fell from No. 6 to No. 16 after the upset loss at the hands of the Wildcats.
It was Oklahoma’s third loss in four years and second straight home loss to Chris Kleiman’s Wildcats.
The Sooners fell behind early in the game as Adrian Martinez methodically worked down the field to help Kansas State jump out to a 14-0 lead. Though Oklahoma recovered to tie the game in the second quarter, Martinez and Deuce Vaughn continued to make life difficult for the Oklahoma defense.
The top five remained the same from last week, with Georgia atop the Coaches Poll at No. 1. Alabama is just five points back from their SEC rival. Ohio State is No. 3, and Michigan came in at No. 4. Clemson is No. 5, and replacing Oklahoma in the top six are the USC Trojans, who won a nailbiter vs. Oregon State.
Oklahoma State takes over as the highest-ranked Big 12 team at No. 7 in the nation. The Baylor Bears are at No. 14 in the country after hanging on against Iowa State.
The Sooners aren’t completely out of it, but now have no margin for error as they get set to go on the road to face the undefeated TCU Horned Frogs.
