Oklahoma State at TCU: Three things to know

  1. Oklahoma State recovered from its prior week loss to in-state rival Oklahoma by putting a 50-burger on Texas Tech. However, the Cowboys were out-gained by 100 total yards and failed to cover as 12-point favorites in the 50-44 win last week.
  2. TCU blew the doors off of Kansas last week and covered as 23-point road favorites. The Horned Frogs outrushed the Jayhawks by 296 yards, had 12 tackles for a loss and 4 sacks in 59-23 whooping.
  3. The Cowboys were a 1-point home dog against TCU last season but won 34-27 in large part due to an awesome performance by RB Chuba Hubbard. He had 20 carries for 223 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns.

Oklahoma State at TCU: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

TCU 27, Oklahoma State 24

Money line (ML)

If TCU can take away Oklahoma State’s run game then QB Spencer Sanders could be in for a rough game.

TCU’s defensive line stacks up nicely against Oklahoma State’s offensive line. It grades out as 19th in line yards per carry and ninth in stuff rate, according to Football Outsiders. The Cowboys offensive line is 96th in line yards per carry and 85th in stuff rate.

RB Dezmon Jackson (36 carries for 235 yards and 3 touchdowns) stepped up in a big way with Hubbard and RB LD Brown sidelined last week, but that was against a terrible Texas Tech run defense. TCU has a much better defense than Texas Tech and head coach Gary Patterson is a defensive mastermind.

This leads us to the disruption TCU could cause for the Oklahoma State offense. TCU is ninth in havoc created and Oklahoma State is 101st in havoc allowed. Sanders has been known to hold onto the ball a little longer than he should, which is a big reason Oklahoma State is 102nd in QB sacked rate.

GIMME TCU (+110) for a half-unit.

Against the spread (ATS)

This is just a great spot for TCU. The favorite is 0-5 ATS in the last five Oklahoma State-TCU games and the home team has covered six of the last eight.

I’d wait to see if this line goes up to TCU +3 because more money is coming in on Oklahoma State currently (according to Pregame.com). Either way, let’s get some insurance on our money line wager.

TAKE TCU +2.5 (-110) for 1.5 units.

Over/Under (O/U)

lean Under 51.5 (-115) but officially PASS ON THE TOTAL. TCU could get defensive scores or short fields with the havoc it creates. However, both teams have gone Under the total in two of their last three games and are both led by their defenses.
