Evaluating the current roster, Sooners Wire profiles the current players with left tackle Wanya Morris up next.

Oklahoma snagged an elite offensive lineman via transfer portal in Morris. The former five-star recruit was an anchor in Tennessee’s front and a key in the Vols’ 2019 recruiting class. No. 64 has great quickness and is effective with solid strength at the point of attack. Morris will now join Bill Bedenbaugh’s offensive line and be tasked with protecting Oklahoma’s famed quarterback, Spencer Rattler.

In 2020 for Tennessee, Morris made seven starts and allowed only two sacks on 195 pass-blocking plays per PFF. He showcased versatility, playing both at left tackle (five starts) and serving as a blocking tight end (two starts) in some of the team’s packages.

Coach Bedenbaugh spoke to media on the impact of Morris’ addition.

“He comes from a great program in Georgia and I watched all of his games from Tennessee, obviously he is a really good player. The one thing I really like is he asks a lot of questions… Has had some success but he’s not resting on what he’s done. Everything- how he works how he approaches it, asks questions, comes up here and meets with me on his own- so, I’ve been impressed with him so far. I think we are going to have some pretty good competition at tackle.”

Morris will be ready to don the Crimson and Cream and go to work with his hand in the dirt for the Sooners.

Depth Chart Overview

Morris is projected to be Oklahoma’s starting left tackle come fall. Stacey Wilkins will likely serve in a backup role at left, with Anton Harrison and Erik Swenson competing for the starting right tackle job. Morris is a prototypical offensive lineman with his height and large wingspan. He is productive in pass protection and in run blocking- moving at the second level to help running backs gain additional yardage. Morris is an exciting acquisition and a player to keep an eye on during spring camp in Norman.
