Quarterback Spencer Rattler continues to redefine the limit on how much hype a redshirt freshman can possibly attain before starting a conference game.

ESPN released its updated “Heisman Watch” following week two’s action, ranking the top contenders across the country for 2020’s Heisman Trophy.

Rattler comes in at No. 2 on ESPN’s list, 23 points behind Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence. Rattler received one first-place vote to Lawrence’s 11.

This only continues a very big week for Lincoln Riley’s new signal-caller. Rattler was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week after dropping 290 yards and four touchdowns in OU’s season-opening rout of Missouri State.

The Sooners jumped two spots to No. 3 in this week’s AP Poll.

Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger trails just two points behind Rattler after putting up a strong performance of his own against UTEP. Ehlinger was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week. Their duel is currently slated for October 10th at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas.

In the meantime, OU is set to kick off Big 12 action by hosting Kansas State at 11 a.m. CT in Norman, Oklahoma.
