Oklahoma, LSU have split the series history prior to meeting in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl

Oklahoma and LSU have only played each other twice in their storied history, once in 1950 and once in 2004. They’ll meet for a third time.

This won’t be the first time the two teams vying for a shot at the national championship at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl have met.

Oklahoma and LSU have only played each other twice in their storied history, once in 1950 and once in 2004. Both were in the Sugar Bowl, and the two powerhouses split it right down the middle.

In 1949, the Sooners were in their third year under Bud Wilkinson and finished with an 11-0 record, capped off by a 35-0 win over LSU. The following year, they would go on to win their first ever national championship.

In 2004 the Tigers got the Sooners back, beating them 21-14 to claim a national championship of their own. Oklahoma was the top-ranked team, led by Heisman trophy winner Jason White, who didn’t fare well against LSU’s No. 1 ranked defense. Sugar Bowl MVP Justin Vincet, LSU’s running back, rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown en route to the Tigers win.

This year, following the game, one team will take an outright lead over the other with a win.

The Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl between Oklahoma and LSU kicks off on Dec 28 at 3 p.m. in Atlanta.
