Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley on Jalen Hurts: “He’s a QB, not a gadget guy”

Lincoln Riley says Jalen Hurts is a quarterback and not a gadget type of player

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Jalen Hurts in the second round of the NFL draft and despite all the talk about gadgets and trick plays, his college head coach believes he’s just a signal-caller.

Lincoln Riley has coached three straight Heisman Trophy Finalists at Oklahoma (Mayfield, Murray, Hurts) and knows a thing or two about the quarterback position.

The Sooners head coach was a guest of the NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano recently and spoke about his former signal-caller in-depth.

The main point that Riley wanted to make centered around Hurts being a quarterback and that’s it.

“I think a little bit of those opinions come from people that haven’t really watched the tapes. When you see his tapes, you see one of the most efficient passing seasons in the history of college football this year.”

Riley went onto say that he sees similarities between the Saints Taysom Hill and Hurts, but at the end of the day, his guy is a quarterback and he landed in a great spot with Doug Pederson and the Philadelphia Eagles.
