With the college baseball season just over two weeks away, Oklahoma was dealt a substantial blow on Tuesday.
Highly-touted freshman infielder/right-handed pitcher Cade Horton is going to miss the 2021 season with a UCL injury that will require him to undergo Tommy John surgery, per D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers.
A hometown kid from Norman, Horton was named the 2019 Gatorade Oklahoma Baseball Player of the Year and rated as the No. 2 player in Oklahoma by Perfect Game and Prep Baseball Report.
A player who seemed to be able to do it all in high school on both the diamond and the football gridiron, Horton was expected to be a big part of the team in the years ahead potentially as either a pitcher or a hitter. He will now have to go on the long road to recovery and set his aim to the 2022 season.

As for the rest of the Sooners, they are going through final preparations for the season opener set for Feb. 19 at home against Southern.
