Oklahoma football recruiting: 5-star QB Caleb Williams has been talking to three 5-star recruits

Oklahoma is doing its best to finish up one of the best recruiting classes it has ever had. And a lot of that can be attributed to its quarterback.

Caleb Williams has done everything in his power to surround himself with the best players in the country. The five-star Sooners’ quarterback commit has been a major help in Oklahoma landing east coast players like Jalil Farooq, Kelvin Gilliam and Damon Harmon. Williams remains a key cog in the Sooners’ pursuit of five-star offensive tackle Tristan Leigh, too.

With national signing day just 16 days away, he is turning up the heat. Williams says he’s been in contact with Leigh, two other five-star recruits and a four-star recruit as of late.

“I’ve been talking with Tristan Leigh pretty heavily recently,” he wrote in his weekly blog. “Just making sure I get my left side, my backside, my blindside, protected so I’m not getting rocked. I wished him all the best and things like that on his decision being about a month out, he’s deciding pretty soon so he can get his edits, videos, all his hats and things for his whole deal. I’m just talking to him, communicating with him trying to build a bond and the trust between us. Hopefully it goes a long way for him so he can come protect my blindside, my backside.

“I’ve also been talking to Emeka (Egbuka) and Bryce (Foster) and Savion (Byrd). As you can see I’m trying to secure my O-linemen so I’m safe and protected. Then after the games we win, you know I’ll feed them big dinners, lol. I need them to go ahead and come on and join up so we can go ball out together. And then of course, I need Emeka to come to finish off this wide receiver class.”

Bryce Foster is a five-star offensive guard from Katy, Texas, Emeka Egbuka is a five-star wide receiver from the state of Washington and Savion Byrd is a four-star offensive tackle from Duncanville, Texas.

With just those four Williams is talking about, Oklahoma would place themselves amongst the top-10 recruiting classes in college football. Maybe even top-five.

The Sooners currently have 15 commitments in the 2021 recruiting class and the class is ranked 14th in the country on Rivals.
