Oklahoma football announces no new positive cases of COVID-19, 3 recoveries

For the second week in a row, Oklahoma football has released transparent data in regards to COVID-19 testing. No new positive cases.

For the second week in a row, Oklahoma football has released transparent data in regards to COVID-19 testing.

The Sooners tested 111 players and 72 staff members upon their arrival for voluntary workouts on July 1. They had seven players who tested positive prior to their arrival and seven that tested positive during the initial round of testing. Twelve players had active cases with two already recovering and two staff members tested positive.

This week? Oklahoma announced that no new players had tested positive.  Here are the results from this week’s testing:

  • Players tested: 89
  • Positive cases: 0
  • Active cases: 9
  • Recoveries: 3

No updated staff testing data was released this week.

Oklahoma has performed 200 tests on players in the first two weeks.

The Sooners and Notre Dame are the only schools to announce in recent days that no new players have tested positive for COVID-19.

Here is how Oklahoma has dealt with positive cases for players, according to a release on May 26:

For initial examination, a campus location has been designated where an individual can be examined for the virus. A campus housing facility has been designated to shelter and quarantine any student who tests positive. Any student-athlete who tests positive will receive care through the full resources of the OU medical staff.

The Sooners are still scheduled to begin the 2020 season on Sept. 5 against Missouri State at home.
