Just a few weeks removed from booing him off the field and chanting for his backup, some Oklahoma fans were pleading for Spencer Rattler to take back the reins at quarterback for the Sooners.
After a sluggish start to the game under freshman replacement Caleb Williams, some OU supporters could be heard chanting “we want Spencer” as Rattler warmed up on the sidelines.
He would indeed replace Williams for a portion of the game, but not for good, leaving plenty of questions moving forward about the team’s quarterback situation.
Williams finished 10-for-19 for 149 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions, adding 17 yards and a score on the ground. Rattler completed four of his six passes for 36 yards.
After Williams replaced Rattler, and promptly led an epic second-half comeback win over rival Texas, it was assumed that Rattler’s days in Norman were numbered, and that he would likely transfer elsewhere instead of entering the 2022 NFL draft.
At this point, who knows what the future holds for Rattler and the Sooners.
