Oklahoma checks in at No. 11 in first College Football Playoff rankings

Oklahoma comes in just outside the top 10 in the first edition of the College Football Playoff rankings.

The first College Football Playoff rankings have been announced, and Oklahoma comes in just outside the top 10 at No. 11.

This is a really solid starting place for the Sooners, as they currently sit at No. 14 in both the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports as well as the AP Poll’s rankings.

Oklahoma has been surging in recent weeks after a 1-2 start to the season with five straight wins and most recently having dominated Oklahoma State (ranked No. 23) last Saturday.

Sitting at the top of the rankings is Alabama, who sit undefeated on the year and are fresh off a decimation of Kentucky last weekend.

The top five is rounded out by Notre Dame, Ohio State, Clemson and Texas A&M.

Other Big 12 teams ranked in these initial rankings include Iowa State at No. 13, Texas at No. 17, and the Cowboys at No. 23.

Next up for Oklahoma is a road trip to Morgantown on Saturday night to face West Virginia.
