The oldest voice in the quarterback room belongs to a walk-on quarterback turned scholarship quarterback.

Tanner Schafer came to Oklahoma out of the 2015 recruiting class after dominating 2A high school football in Texas. He chose to walk-on for the Sooners after having offers from Tulsa and Ohio.

Schafer has made appearances in two games during his four years at Oklahoma. In Feb. of 2020, he was put on scholarship. Schafer has been in a quarterback room with Heisman Trophy winners Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray, as well as Heisman Trophy runner-up Jalen Hurts.

The Canadian, Texas, native is one of four scholarship quarterbacks on campus for Lincoln Riley in 2020.
