OKC Blue select Lu Dort’s ASU teammate Rob Edwards in G League draft

The G League draft results are in, and the Oklahoma City Blue drafted Rob Edwards, a former Arizona State teammate of Luguentz Dort.

One of the Blue’s draft picks has a familiar face in Oklahoma City.

The Thunder’s developmental team selected Rob Edwards in the second round of the G League draft on Monday.

Edwards was teammates with Thunder guard Lu Dort at Arizona State University in 2018-19, the lone season Dort played at ASU.

That season, the Sun Devils went 23-11 and made the NCAA Tournament.

Edwards was the 3-point marksman over the two years he spent in Tempe, Arizona. He hit a hair under 37% of the 5.7 3-pointers he attempted per game and averaged 11.3 points.

He spent five years at college, playing the first two at Cleveland State before moving to ASU and sitting out for a season due to transfer rules.

Edwards graduated last year, a season that ended during the conference tournament and stopped the push toward what could have been his second NCAA Tournament in as many tries.

The Thunder organization has now had three players on either the Thunder or Blue this season who were part of the ASU team with Dort, albeit one of them was only on Oklahoma City for a very brief time. OKC received Zylan Cheatham from the New Orleans Pelicans as part of the Steven Adams trade and waived him shortly after.

Edwards was selected 18th overall in the G League draft. The Blue had two first-round picks. At No. 7 they selected Zavier Simpson out of Michigan, and with pick 13 took Vincent Edwards, who played two NBA games during the 2018-19 season.

The G League will have a tournament inside the Disney World bubble in Orlando, Florida that was used for the NBA bubble for the end of last season and the postseason.
