Ohio State women beat Michigan State, tie for Big Ten championship

Congrats to the Lady Bucks! #GoBucks

While we were drowning our sorrows in a very uninspiring effort by the Ohio State men’s basketball team, the women were winning a Big Ten regular-season championship by knocking off Michigan State 61-55, then lying in wait as the Michigan Wolverines fell to Iowa 104-80 later in the day.

The combination of results left both the Hawkeyes and Buckeyes tied for the conference championship. It also gave the Buckeyes the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament this coming week because of tiebreaking procedures.

Both Iowa and Ohio State finished the conference season at 14-4, but OSU held the head-to-head tiebreaker because of a 92-88 road victory over the Hawkeyes on January 31. Michigan finishes second with a 13-4 record.

The conference title is the program’s 16th, most of any Big Ten team. The Buckeyes will now head into the Big Ten tournament and with the double-bye, will not have to play their first game until 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
