Ohio State basketball’s first round Maui Invitational opponent announced

Who is coming with me? #GoBucks

We already knew that the Ohio State basketball team was headed to Hawaii for the Maui Jim Maui Invitational this fall (sign me up!), but the opponents were still being hammered out.

According to a release from the folks on the islands on Monday, we now know that the Buckeyes will face the San Diego State Aztecs to start their journey off on November 21 at 9 p.m. ET, with ESPNU televising the action.

Ohio State’s game will follow two other games earlier in the day at the Lahaina Civic Center. Texas Tech and Creighton will play in the first game and Louisville and Arkansas will match up in the second contest. The Buckeyes will face either Arizona or Cincinnati in their second game depending on the outcomes of both previous contests.

This will be OSU’s fourth time taking part in the event after a long layoff due to the demands the previous administration believed such a travel-intensive tournament caused. Ohio State previously participated in 1993, 1998, and 2003 Maui Invitationals.

This will be the fourth meeting between the Aztecs and Buckeyes with SDSU leading the all-time series 2-1.
