Ohio State Basketball transfer Luther Muhammad cuts list from eight to five

Ohio State guard Luther Muhammad entered the transfer portal and now cut his list of schools from eight to a mere five. Who’s on the list.

The Ohio State basketball team had a dynamic start to the 2019 season. They defeated two top-ten teams by 20-plus. It was looking like one of the best teams the Buckeyes fielded this half of the decade.

Well, it didn’t last, and with it, the team’s chemistry seemed to self-implode with it. DJ Carton took a hiatus from the team and eventually transferred after the canceled NCAA Tournament. Forward Alonzo Gaffney also left the program.

Then — shockingly — Luther Muhammad opted to leave Columbus as well. After announcing a final eight schools, he has now cut that down to a mere five.

Those five, according to 247 Sports’ Evan Daniels, are Seton Hall, Arizona State, UCLA, West Virginia, and New Mexico. Keep in mind Muhammad is from New Jersey, potentially giving Seton Hall a leg up in the race. However, there have been other rumors suggesting that Arizona State is the preferred destination. We’ll just have to see how it all plays out.

Muhammad spent two seasons with the Buckeyes, averaging 7.6 points his freshman season and 7.0 in 2019-2020.

Primarily known as a defensive-specialist, Muhammad is likely looking for a larger role in the offense. It’s a big hole to fill, but he should fit in rather well with one of the programs he’s looking at.

We’ll just have to see how it all shakes out.
