The Ohio State basketball team had a win over Rutgers last week, but it just missed the cut for inclusion in the latest Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll.

The latest Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll was released among all the hubbub of the college football national championship game Monday, and the Ohio State basketball team just missed making it back into the top 25. The Buckeyes were the first team in the “others receiving votes,” which means if it was a top 26 poll, they’d be in.

Regardless, the top ten has a familiar ring to it. Gonzaga is No. 1, followed by Baylor (2), Villanova (3), Texas (4), Michigan (5), Creighton (6), Kansas (7), Iowa (8), Wisconsin (9), and Tennessee (10).

Ohio State beat what was a No. 14 ranked Rutgers (now dropped out) squad last week but have a game against Penn State canceled. The win wasn’t enough to vault the Buckeyes back up into the poll and OSU now has a week where it will face Northwestern at home Wednesday, followed by a game at No. 13 Illinois on Saturday.

Winning one of the two might get the Buckeyes back in the poll, but they may have to find a way to win both.
