The Ohio State basketball team has gotten off to a 3-0 start this year, but it’s shot at remaining undefeated and improving to 4-0 will have to wait. The Buckeyes were supposed to take on the Alabama A&M Bulldogs on Saturday, but that game has been canceled because of COVID-19 concerns.
According to a release from an Ohio State spokesman, the move was made after the Alabama A&M program shared the results of its COVID-19 testing.
“The Ohio State Department of Athletics, in alignment with COVID-19 testing and protocols for non-conference opponents, has canceled the men’s basketball game against Alabama A&M University scheduled for tomorrow evening at 7 p.m. at the Jerome Schottenstein Center,” said an OSU spokesman. “The decision was made out of an abundance of caution and with the welfare of the student-athletes, coaches and event staff in mind after Alabama A&M shared results of its most recent testing.”
We must stress that this appears to be an issue with the visiting team and not any concerns associated with any testing within the Ohio State program. We wish the players and staff of Alabama A&M health and safety as they deal with the fallout of this pandemic that can’t end soon enough.
Ohio State is next scheduled to travel to Notre Dame next Tuesday as a part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
