The Ohio State Buckeyes (5-0, 2-0 Big Ten) and the Purdue Boilermakers (2-4, 1-2) meet Saturday at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Ind. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET (Peacock). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Ohio State vs. Purdue odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Buckeyes racked up a 37-17 win over a previously unbeaten Maryland side last Saturday, narrowly escaping with the cover as a 17-point favorite. In fact, it took a curious, late field goal by coach Ryan Day to get Ohio State to the cover. The Under cashed for the 4th time in 5 games, including a 4-0 mark when the line is listed at 64 or fewer points.

The Boilermakers entered the season with some decent expectations, but a loss to Fresno State in the opener adjusted projections. Losses to Syracuse, Wisconsin and Iowa followed, and now this team is simply scratching to stay alive for a bowl. It has failed to cover in 4 of 6 games overall, and Purdue is just 1-3 straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS) at home.

Ohio State is No. 3 in the US LBM Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Ohio State at Purdue picks and predictions

Prediction

Ohio State 41, Purdue 17

Moneyline

Ohio State (-1400) has had a whale of a time at Ross-Ade Stadium over the years, including losses in 4 of the past 5 trips to West Lafayette, and 5 of the previous 8 trips since 2000.

Purdue (+800) has been a major thorn in the side of the Buckeyes for a long time, but this installment of Boilermakers football doesn’t seem to have the tools to make much trouble for the No. 3 team in the nation. Still, you can’t risk 14 times your potential return.

PASS.

Against the spread

OHIO STATE -19.5 (-110) seems like a rather high number given the fact Ross-Ade has been a house of horrors for the Buckeyes since the turn of the century. However, this is also a Purdue +19.5 (-110) side which was dunked on by Syracuse and Wisconsin by 15 or more points.

Bettors will not take a lot of comfort in the fact Ohio State is 0-2 ATS in the state of Indiana this season, barely beating Indiana and Notre Dame.

The Buckeyes will likely look to establish the run, as the Boilermakers have coughed up 153.8 yards per game on the ground, while allowing 28.0 PPG overall. It might start out close, and bettors and Ohio State fans will be mumbling, “here we go, again!”. However, the Buckeyes should pull away late for the comfortable cover.

Over/Under

OVER 51.5 (-110) is the play, and Ohio State should do most of the heavy lifting on its own.

After a bit of a sluggish start, the offense is starting to hit on all cylinders. Ohio State has scored 35 or more points in 3 of the past 4 games, with the lone exception the Notre Dame game in a marquee, prime-time game against a fellow top-10 team at the time. Look for Ohio State to score plenty as the game unfolds.
