Ohio State at Maryland: Three things to know

  1. Ohio State went to Iowa City and upset Iowa 89-85 Thursday as a 5-point underdog – the Hawkeyes were ranked No. 8 in last week’s Coaches Poll. The Buckeyes, who trailed 61-50 before a 17-5 run, received 16 points apiece from sophomore F E.J. Liddell, junior G Duane Washington Jr. and senior F Kyle Young. Liddell leads OSU in scoring (15.4 points per game) and rebounds (6.9 RPG).
  2. Maryland has alternated wins and losses over its last six games, most recently falling at Penn State 55-50 Friday as a 3-point dog. Eric Ayala was the only Terrapin to score in double figures, finishing with a career- and game-high 23 points. The junior point guard leads Maryland with 14.4 PPG and 1.2 steals per game.
  3. The rivals split their two games last season with the home team coming out on top. Ohio State claimed a 79-72 victory as a 2.5-point favorite last February; Maryland won 67-55 as a 2.5-point favorite 6½ weeks earlier. The Terps are a career 5-1 vs. the Buckeyes at home, including victories in the last five meetings and 4-0 since joining the Big Ten.

Against the spread (ATS)

OHIO STATE -4.5 (-110) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager. If the Buckeyes, winners of four in a row and seven of eight, aren’t the best team in the Big Ten, they’re definitely playing like it.

OSU is 4-0 in its last four conference road games, all vs. teams ranked in the top 15 at the time. The four victories came against then-No. 14 Rutgers, then-No. 13 Illinois, then-No. 10 Wisconsin and most recently Iowa.

ATS: Ohio State 11-7-1 | Maryland 7-11

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 139.5 (-110) is the play. Maryland, which has played four Unders in a row, is the lowest scoring team in the Big Ten. The Terps average 69.7 PPG in all games and 62.8 PPG in conference play.

They can go stretches without scoring. In the Penn State loss, they missed their last 10 field-goal attempts over the final 7:32.

O/U records: Ohio State 11-8 | Maryland 9-8-1
