Ohio State at Iowa: Three things to know

  1. Ohio State, which has won 3 games in a row, is coming off a 79-62 victory Sunday against Michigan State as a 5.5-point home favorite. Sophomore F E.J. Liddell and junior F Justice Sueing scored 20 and 17 points, respectively, as OSU improved to 6-1 in its last seven games. Liddell leads the Buckeyes in scoring (15.3 points per game) and rebounds (6.9 RPG). Senior G CJ Walker (49-for-50 / 98%) and Junior G Duane Washington Jr. (54-for-60 / 90%) rank first and second, respectively, in free-throw percentage in the Big Ten; Washington leads the conference in 3-pointers made per game at 2.7.
  2. Iowa is also coming off a win against Michigan State, claiming an 84-78 home victory Tuesday to snap a 2-game skid. C Luka Garza recorded game-highs with 27 points and 12 rebounds, but the Hawkeyes failed to cover as 9-point favorites. The senior center leads the country with 26.5 PPG, ranks fourth in the Big Ten with 8.8 RPG and is third in the conference with a 59.6% FG percentage. Junior G Joe Wieskamp averages 14.2 PPG and 6.2 RPG, and senior G Jordan Bohannon (9.5 PPG) leads the Hawkeyes with 42 made 3-pointers.
  3. Iowa took last season’s lone matchup between the two rivals 85-76 as a 1.5-point home favorite. The Hawkeyes and Buckeyes split their last four meetings 2-2 straight up and ATS, and they’re an even 5-5 SU and ATS over the last 10 contests.

Ohio State at Iowa: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Iowa 85, Ohio State 77

Money line (ML)

PASS. Iowa (-240) is 10-1 at home this season and Ohio State is 4-3 on the road, but backing a -240 money line is not worth the risk.

Against the spread (ATS)

IOWA -5.5 (-110) is worth a HALF-UNIT wager. This will likely come down to the final minute, but the lean is with the Hawkeyes because:

  • The home team is 4-0 SU & ATS in the last 4 head-to-head tilts.
  • OSU hasn’t posted back-to-back covers since five games ago.

ATS: Ohio State 10-7-1 | Iowa 10-7

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 156.5 (-110) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager. Iowa is the country’s second-highest scoring team at 89.4 PPG (behind only Gonzaga’s 94.3 PPG) and averages 90.8 PPG at home.

In Big Ten games, Iowa is first with 82.8 PPG and Ohio State is fourth at 75.7 PPG.

O/U records: Ohio State 10-8 | Iowa 11-6
