Official: Bills pick up fifth-year option on DT Ed Oliver

Official: #Bills pick up fifth-year option on DT Ed Oliver:

The Buffalo Bills made a known transaction official.

On Tuesday, the team announced that the fifth-year option on the rookie contract of defensive tackle Ed Oliver was picked up.

Previously in March, Buffalo general manager had stated the team intended to pick up Oliver’s option.

As a former first-round pick, Oliver’s contract had a team option attached to it for a fifth season. All Round 1 picks have that on their rookie contracts, however, players selected in the other six rounds do not.

Oliver, 24, is now signed through the 2023 season. The fifth-year option does come with a nice day increase for players as well.

According to Spotrac, Oliver’s base pay will jump from $3.2 million in 2022 to $10.7M next year.

As a rookie, Oliver put up a single-season career-high five sacks. Combined over the past two years, Oliver has gathered seven total. However, Oliver recorded four of those five in a three-game stretch in his first season and since being a rookie he has evolved his game into a more consistent one overall.

Pro Football Focus graded Oliver a 71.8 overall mark last season. That was good for their 23rd best defensive tackle grade.
