Odell Beckham Jr. is happy feeling grounded and comfortable in Cleveland

OBJ likes owning a home in Cleveland and being healthy in the offseason

A thoughtful, happy Odell Beckham Jr. met with the Cleveland Browns media on Tuesday. Those qualities have not always been associated with Beckham during the wide receiver’s tenure in Cleveland, but he’s healthy, excited and finally at home with his new team.

Beckham opened up about being a first-time homeowner and having a stable residence. He bought his first house as a home base during football season in Northeast Ohio.

“Being able to work on your house and feel comfortable, feel safe and security is definitely something I haven’t had in my career as far as being grounded in a house, having a place,” Beckham said via Zoom. “That’s definitely a good feeling.”

He’s also healthy now that he’s had surgery for the core muscle injury that plagued him in 2019, his first season with the Browns.

“Definitely feeling a lot better than last year,” he said. “Really had a great offseason as far as preparation and work. Just thankful to be back out there at practice and doing the things that I love.”

Beckham also showed some needed maturity when asked about how he thinks his 2020 season will play out. Never one to shy away from self-promotion in the past, a more low-key OBJ opined,

“It’s something to look forward to. But the most important thing that I’ve learned, whether it’s being in this game, life happens, it is taking it one day at a time and really focusing on that and never getting too ahead of yourself.”

Beckham has had a very strong training camp thus far, and he’s got a much better connection with QB Baker Mayfield this summer. While the wideout is curbing his own enthusiasm, it’s easy to get excited over what he can do in new head coach Kevin Stefanski’s offense.
