Oddsmakers giving Ohio State basketball little shot to be in contention for national title

BetMGM doesn’t give the Ohio State basketball team very good odds to do much damage in the NCAA Tournament come March.

The Ohio State basketball team is an improving outfit. It has won five of its last six games and has gotten both of the major polls to elevate it up to top fifteen status. The AP Poll has OSU at No. 13 and the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll has the Buckeyes up to No. 15 because well — coaches (insert Dabo Swinney jab here).

Despite all the noted improvement and top fifteen wins on the season, Ohio State isn’t getting a lot of love from the oddsmakers that set lines on which teams have the best shot to win the NCAA Tournament in (hopefully) March.

In fact, despite a top fifteen ranking, BetMGM only has the Buckeyes as the 22nd best odds to cut down the nets somewhere around Indianapolis in early April.

Look, I don’t expect OSU to be up in the top five or anything, but with how deep this team is, and with how efficient it is at the offensive end of the court, you’d expect those odds to be a little better than the +3500 that it has been set at.

By the way, Rutgers, Missouri, Louisville, and UConn all have better odds.

All of that out of the way, you may be wondering what the top ten looks like. In that case, here you go. You can also get a look at all of the odds by going to BetMGM and navigating to the college basketball futures tab.

Gonzaga +250
Baylor +450
Villanova +750
Michigan +1200
Texas +1200
Wisconsin +1300
Creighton +1400
Houston +1400
Virginia +1600
Florida State +1600

I guess we’ll see if Ohio State can prove all the naysayers wrong. There’s still a long way to go this season.
