Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer selected by Raiders in NFL draft

The Irish tight end is off the board

After an illustrious three-year career at [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag], tight end [autotag]Michael Mayer[/autotag] knew he was going to be selected in the NFL draft.  He was hoping to be a first round pick but fell to early part of the second.

What Mayer didn’t know was where, but we do now as the All-American was selected by the Raiders with the 35th overall pick, the fifth pick of the second round.

In his three years in South Bend, Mayer caught 180 receptions for 2,099 yards and 18 touchdowns. He left Notre Dame as the all-time leader in receptions.

As a high school prospect, Mayer came into the Irish program as a 5-star and lived up to the hype. We wish Michael the best as he begins his pro career with Las Vegas and we certainly can’t help but think back to the starring role he’s already had in Vegas
