No. 95. Elmer Layden
The member of Notre Dame’s legendary “Four Horseman” backfield years earlier returned to coach his Alma-mater from 1934-1940 and went 47-13-3 but failed to win a national championship.
Layden went 48-16-6 at Duquesne before taking the Notre Dame job – a job he left after 1940 to become commissioner of the NFL.
